Back Glass Repair
Replacement of the glass panel on the rear of a phone. More complex than front screen repair on iPhones due to the adhesive bonding method — requires laser separation on iPhone 8 and later. Samsung back glass is typically simpler.
What It Is
Most premium phones since 2017 use glass backs — required for wireless charging (metal blocks the Qi signal). Unlike front screens, the back glass doesn’t contain a display or touch layer. Cracked back glass typically happens from drops. Functionally the phone usually continues to work — but the cracks can worsen, wireless charging may degrade, and IP water resistance is compromised once the seal is broken.
iPhone vs Samsung Back Glass
iPhone (8 and later): Apple bonds the back glass to the frame with extremely strong adhesive. A laser separator machine is required to remove it safely. Without a laser, attempting to lever the glass off risks cracking the frame or damaging the wireless charging coil.
Samsung (S and A series): Samsung back glass responds better to heat-based removal using a heat gun and suction cups. Generally cheaper than iPhone back glass repair.

Why is iPhone back glass repair more expensive than a screen repair?
On iPhone 8 onwards, the back glass is bonded with very strong adhesive. Removing it without a laser separator risks destroying the frame. The laser equipment is expensive and the process is slower.
Is cracked back glass just cosmetic or does it need repair?
