Many of the laptops we see from Jurong West are family machines and student laptops that are a few years old. Most don’t need replacing. They need a new battery, a faster drive, or both, and a free diagnosis will tell you which before you spend anything.
Is your old laptop worth repairing?
Usually, yes. These are the three complaints we hear most, and what tends to fix them.
It takes minutes to start up
Older laptops often still run on a spinning hard drive. Swapping it for an SSD is usually the biggest single speed-up, cutting start-up from over a minute to around 10 to 15 seconds. Our SSD vs HDD guide shows how to check which one you have.
The battery doesn’t last
If it dies within an hour or two, drops from 40% to 5% without warning, or only works plugged in, the battery is worn out. We fit OEM-equivalent batteries matched to your exact model. Our laptop battery guide shows how to check battery health on Windows and MacBook.
The base or trackpad is bulging
That’s a swollen battery. Stop using the laptop, don’t charge it, and bring it in. A swollen lithium battery is a fire risk and should be replaced straight away.
A new battery and an SSD are often worth doing in the same visit. If you’re upgrading the drive, tell us what you need kept and ask about moving your files across when we quote.
