Why Singapore makes thermal throttling worse
Processor manufacturers design thermal limits based on ambient temperatures of around 20–22°C — typical for offices and homes in Europe or North America. Singapore’s ambient temperature of 28–33°C gives laptops significantly less thermal headroom before the processor starts throttling. A laptop that never throttled in an air-conditioned environment will throttle frequently in a non-air-conditioned room.
How to identify thermal throttling
The clearest sign is a laptop that runs fast for 5–10 minutes then noticeably slows. In games, FPS drops suddenly under sustained load. In video editing or rendering, processing that was fast becomes sluggish mid-way through.
